DOs of How to Be Surveyed

What to DO!

• Clean up your work area.

• Do a quick survey of your work area right before Survey starts.

• Check the Surveyor's badge including their photo.

• Make a positive first impression.

• Remain courteous, prompt, and professional.

• Have SDS postings of any office supplies that could be toxic (i.e. markers, dry erase spray, hand sanitizer, etc.)

• Keep personal items or sharps locked in drawers (i.e. purses, scissors, perfume, toys, food, cleaning products, tissues, extra cups, etc.)

• Know Community Healthcore's Mission Statement.

• Know where your policies and procedures are kept.

• Understand what it means to have a Person-centered, Trauma-informed, Recovery-oriented culture, and that these philosophies are embedded in the standards and requirements of The Joint Commission.

• Know where to find documents and records you need for your job.

• Be brief in response.

• Keep your management and supervisors involved.

• Listen attentively to questions. When in doubt, ask for clarification of the question. Still in doubt? Say "I don't know. Let me find out or contact someone who knows."

• Know why "accreditation matters" - Joint Commission behavioral care accreditation provides a framework to help manage risk and enhace the quality and safety of care, treatment and services.

• Breathe and learn from the interaction with the surveyors, who are behavioral health professionals.

• Know where your manuals are located (Safety Manual, Infection Control Manual, Medical Services Manual, Individualized Facility Emergency Management Plan).
